Get rid of the path /node in Frontpage

Hello and thanks if anyone will help. I really do not understand how to have a frontpage with the name"frontpage.com" and not "frontpage.com/node" - I know the default frontpage is a View and that I can change the path there, but if I change it then I am redirected to the single node I decided to publish on frontpage, and not to the actual frontpage (where there are more regions, slider etc). I've also tried to change the frontpage path in the Site Basic Settings but it results in "Page not found"
What am I not understanding? thanks again
