How to list subsequently referenced entities?

Hi,

There is something I could not get my head wrapped around: How to list subsequently referenced entities?

I have a number of entities (A,B,C,D - all of the same type) referencing their respective successor. E.g.

A -> B -> C -> D

I need a view that lists them all in a table:
A
B
C
D

There is either
a) no parent->children relationship,
OR
b) there are 3 parent->single_child relationships which in turn must somehow be resolved recursively.

I suspect the solution may be very simple - I just don't see it!
Could someone please point me into the right direction.
